Hi. I just downloaded some anime episodes from the internet, but they end in .mkv. The audio is MP3 and the video is encoded with Advanced Video Codec (AVC) and MediaInfo says the codec ID is V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC.

I want to be able to burn these episodes off onto a CD-R (don't have DVD Burner) and watch them on my DivX standalone. However, I remember my player refuses to read .mkv. I am wondering, because the Codec ID says it's V_MPEG4, does this video have a chance on my player?

I read something about resaving .mkv files as .avi with Direct Stream Copy in VDM. When I tired this, I opened the file and VDM came up with warning of frames only having a forward reference. When I actually tired to resave as .avi, VDM said it wasn't possible because the video source uses a compression logarithm not compatible with .avi files.

In short, I want to watch this video on my DivX standalone without having to reencode. So, any ideas?

Gotta re-encode to divx to watch on your player. Also if they are hd such as 1280x720 and your player wont support it then you also gotta resize it down to something like 624x352 divx.

Avi is just a container, changing the mkv to avi wont help cause its the codecs that need to be changed.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

Aw man ! Oh well, I guess I will use my DirectShowSource thing to re-encode like the other files so far. I am just lazy.

But, can anybody else confirm this? I still have hope!
