I thinking of making a movie by filming Star Wars Galaxies while playing. I am using fraps to film. But a editing program im thinking of getting (Final Cut Express HD) can't read the .AVI files that fraps produces. Is there another video screen capture program that u use, or a way to convert the .AVI into different files without losing resolution? Or a way to change the options on the Fraps program to produce a different .AVI or use a different compressor?

dreach is talking about the video game, not the film.

  9. Fraps uses a custom codec called FPS1. It is installed together with Fraps, and should allow you to edit the video in all kinds of programs. It's possible however, that Final Cut HD doesn't like the codec, or, the resolution of your capture.

Before you go try all kinds of different editing programs, think about the resolution your final product/movie should have. If the resolution you are capturing in now is higher then what the final movie is going to be, maybe it's wise to use another resolution for your captures.

Try to stick with existing video resolutions and frame-rates if possible. Fraps can produce high resolution captures, with a high frame-rate, which in turn are a pain to edit (uses lots of resources).

If you stick with the resolution you are using now, I bet a lot of people here can advise you what software to use for high resolution captures.

i am getting Final Cut Express HD, is there anything i can do to make it work with Final Cut?

  11. Try keeping the captures at HD resolution, 1280 x 720 pixels for example. You have a better chance then that Final Cut will except the files.

how do i change resolution in fraps?

  13. You can always set the display resolution / resolution of your game to the desired setting. I believe Fraps will record in that same resolution.
