    Hi everyone!

I've been trying to add some Japanese subtitles to a DVD, I have Japanese support in windows installed, both read and Write.

I've tried MaestroSBT to do this, but can't figure how to do this, in the rendering options I've set up the script font code page to FORCE JAPANESE (SHIFT JIS), and the other combinations, even changed the script font to another (like MS Gothic) with japanese script support, but maestrosbt shows only this "??????".

If I load a Script with the Japanese writing into maestrosbt will show random chars...

    What can I do???

I'm using DVD Maestro for authoring
Using MaestroSBT 2.6.0.0 for the subpictures

Any help will be highly appreciated

You may need to do this. I had a somewhat similar problem a few years ago with some Russian subtitles and this is what I did. Assuming that MaestroSBT is capable of working with Japanese character sets, start up the Control Panel in Windows and then choose Regional and Language Options. Go to Advanced and where it says "Select a language to match the language version of the non-Unicode programs you want to use" then select whatever Japanese character set is appropriate. Click on Apply and the system will tell you to re-boot to make the change take effect. Reboot, start up MaestroSBT and hopefully it will now understand the Japanese character set.

If it really supported Unicode like it claims, you wouldn't have this problem. Unicode support probably in reality means that the writer tried it with Latin character sets that use things like accent marks and pronounced it "Unicode ready" with no effort to test other character sets such as Cyrillic, Greek, Japanese, etc.

Under "RENDERING" options, there is a selection called "Multibyte Code Page". Did you set this for Japanese Shift/JIS?

I don't know it that will work, I only use the "System Default" setting.

    jman98 Won!

Is working fine, Kana and Kanji input works fine, thanks for the tip...

In the other hand my current scripts are all messed up, all accentuated characters (á, é, í, , ó, ú)
and other non-english (or non-romaji, non useb by Japanese) are all changed with Kanji chars...

How do make it without messing with all ANSI files again?

I'd just remembered about NJStar, but I don't know it will work with maestrosbt
