I recently upgraded from Stuido 9 to 10.6. I had upgraded in order to edit in HD using the JVC GY-HD100U. I can't get the computer to recognize the camera. Pinnacle sent me a note:

Dear Customer, according to your description, you are using as operating system Windows XP 64 Bit. The Windows XP 64 Bit version is not officially supported by Pinnacle. There are no Windows XP 64 Bit drivers available for our hardware products and Pinnacle does not plan to add support in the future. However, Pinnacle is developing 64 Bit drivers for Windows Vista 64 Bit.

Si it appears that this is why I have a capture problem in Pinnacle. But, shouldn't the computer still recognize the camera through the 1394 if Pinnacle studio isn't open on trying to capture? Or, will the computer just sit like it does due to the processor? I don't know.

I have Microsoft movie maker software, so I opened it to try and capture but computer just sits.

Anyone have any words of encouragement as to what I can do? Is the computer not recognizing the camera due to pinnacle on the computer AMD turion 64 bit?

Has anyone else had this problem?

I have studio 9 on the computer and loaded 10.6 over it. It shows that I have both 9 and 10.6 as 2 different programs on the computer. I was thinking it would upgrade and then only give me the one version 10.6

But, what do I know...I need help and advise.

Gateway helped me reinstall the 1394 driver and but that did not help any.

In device manager it shows nothing for imaging devices except the printer when it is hooked up.

Under Systems in device manager, it shows 2 Pinnacle Marvin bus and one with a yellow exclamation mark beside it.

Anyway, I hope someone can give me some feedback.

    Thank you
    Lisa

I'm really surprised at the following

    1. That one would be using Win XP 64bit for advanced video applications unless the application has been proven to work and has the full support of the application manufacturer. XP 64bit has few advantages most are in specialized areas such as pro encoding.

    2. That one would even think about editing $5000 JVC GY-HD100U material on a $50 (free if you do the rebates) consumer program like Studio. The HD100U is known for "advanced 24p" but can be dumbed down to normal HDV or DV but why not use an edit program appropriate to that camcorder. That camcorder is fully supported in Avid, Premiere Pro and others but maybe not under Win XP 64. You need to ask first.

I saved the most astonishment for last
    3. That Windows Movie Maker won't even capture normal DV format under Win XP 64? What the Hey?

the problem at present is the computer isn't recognizing new hardware. Not sure why when the 1394 port is enabled. Any ideas?
