What would cause my fairly new 1650 to stop burning TY02 DVD-R? Anytime I try to burn I get the 'Invalid address for write error" message from both IMGburn and DVD Decrypter. Nero just errors out 30 seconds in. It still burns RiData G05 and MCC 02. I have updated the firmware to BCIC, at one point I even rolled back to BCHC to see if it made a difference. I have tried to burn using DVD Decrypter, Nero 7 and ImgBurn. I have also downloaded and installed the latest Adaptec ASPI drivers (after completely uninstalling Nero 7). It was burning them fine till about halfway through the spindle so I know the media is good (that and they work fine with my Plextor and Pioneer). Any tips or hints?

That is one of the many reasons why I got rid of my BenQ 1620Pro. It refused to burn my 8x TY -R's at 8x and often coughed at 4x on them. It burned anything +R flawlessly however.

That's the way I'm leaning. At about $30 it's hard not to just say it's not worth the trouble and get a Pioneer instead.

I have 3 BenQ DVD burners in the past 3 years. 2 died within 2 years of purchase. I would hesitate to buy any Benq (or Philips) DVD burners in future. LG burner is cheaper and seemed to be slightly more reliable only 1 died amongst 6 burners within the past 4 years.

Look at the disks which fail. When I have had problems halfway through a spindle, which are consistant I have usually found obvious physical defects in the media. Lumps particularly at the center, pinholes in the surface and other failures which have not been caught by manufacturers quality control.

Of course someone might also suggest that you have "fake"TY media. I'm surprised that after this many hours no one has.

use NERO CLEAN TOOL then reinstall NERO BURN. as suggested you may have FAKE TY media. where did you get the TY MEDIA from? if the drive can burn other dvd media fine then it's not the burner but the media that you're using. try using some VERBATIM DVD+R media and BTW it's a known fact that BENQ drives prefer DVD+R media than DVD-R.

I can burn the discs fine on my Plextor and Pioneer burners. Also I got the discs from Rima. From what I understand, the Benq drives "learn" how to burn individual media over a period of time. Wondering if it learned something wrong. If so, how do you erase its "memory".

Cleaned its "memory" using Qsuite..... fixed it. Odd, thought it was supposed to make it burn better, not worse. I think it's going to be Pioneer and Lite-On from now on for me. This Benq and My Plextor 740A (Benq 1620 in disguise) just haven't been as reliable as the 2 Pioneers I have used. I get better scans outta the Pioneers, too. I only add Lite-On cuz I need something that will booktype and they are great rippers.

smitbret the PLEXTOR 740A drive you have is a REBADGED BENQ 1640 drive not a 1620. As I've mentioned before BENQ drives favor DVD+R media. Yes you need to clear QSUITE and let it learn the media again. Everyone's computer has different components and chipsets therefore you may not get the same results as the next BENQ 1640, 1650 & 1655 owner. My 1620 burns 8x -16x TY DVD-R better than my 1650 & 1640 depending on what firmware that I use. All of my BENQ drives have different firmware. I use different firmwares depending on the dvd media that I am using.
