For the 2nd time the freezer trick didn't work on a crashed HDD
It was a clicking away, threw it in the deep freeze for 2 hours and then put it back in...not readable....
Guess I need a new trick for saving crashed HDDs

If I had a drive crash, I'd send it to a lab. I wouldn't even mess with it myself.

This procedure is not a fix.
It is a low-probability emergency method for getting a drive up for long enough to restore the data. Might work once in ten tries.
In the old days we used to slam MFM drives hard onto a concrete floor.
Neither of these are recommended, ONLY when the drive in no longer accessible, there is data that could be retrieved, and the decision NOT to spend many hundreds of dollars to send to a lab has already been made.
The alternative is to throw the drive into the garbage, nothing to lose.
I have had much more success by exchanging the circuit board on the suspect drive for another one from an identical drive.
I once had a customer who removed the outer case, and physically started the platters spinning by using his finger on the edge of the platters. This drive worked this way for several months.
