I can see the VU meters jumping when I play imported or recorded audio in the Adobe Premiere 1.5 but I can't hear it.If I import an audio/video the Premiere plays the sound back with know problem. I can import and record audio well but can only see it play back.No sound.I need to hear the audio in order to edit the film to the audio.
    Thank You.

  2. If your DV camcorder is still plugged in to your computer, Premiere may be defaulting to play (or try to play) the audio through your external device, so I'm guessing you just need to make sure that Premiere is configured to play audio through the PC.

To check this, in Premiere go to your "Monitor" window (where your clips are played back) and go to the Sequence window, right side of the Monitor window screen. You should see a little arrow in the upper right corner of the Sequence window, it's an arrow inside a circle.

Left-click on the arrow, and a menu will pop-up and at the bottom of the menu is the line "Playback settings." Select Playback settings and that'll open the "DV Playback Settings" window, and here you'll find options for Video and Audio Playback.

There are two choices for Audio Playback:

Play Audio on DV Hardware (usually checked by default)
Play Audio on Audio Hardware (this is what you want to select)

So choose "Play Audio on Audio Hardware," click the OK button, and that should do it.

Sometimes if you're editing a fairly large DV file, there can be a bit of a lag between when you import a new file and when that file's audio will be "conformed" so that it plays back in Premiere. So when you open any file on a timeline, look at the bottom of the work window to see if there's the message "Conforming audio," it can take several minutes for the sound to "catch up" to the video.

    Thanks much ozymango.

I just can't believe the playback setting didnt work.I recorded a track and its the same thing It's playing back in everything but can't hear it. I never had this problem before. My Premiere was reinstalled about two weeks ago. I hope it's OK. Everything else seems to be working well.

    Thanks Again.
