Im having a problem with my sv2000 wv20v6 vhs/dvd recorder. Half the time it will not let me record from my vhs. These are NOT protected tapes, they are my own blank tapes I bought to record off of tv. It will start recording anywhere from 5 min to a whole hour before it stops and says "this program is not allowed to be recorded" I can sometimes start over a couple of times, and it will record it, other times, not at all. The tapes are not protected, so any idea why dvd recorder is still telling me it cannot be recorded?

Sounds like your Player/recorder is sensitive to Copy 1, Copy 2, Copy 3.

Your recorder is falsely detecting Macrovision. Probably because of marginal recordings and/or playback. This is a very common problem. Using a VCR with a built in line time base correcter, and/or an external full frame time base correcter should eliminate the problem. Note, both of those start around US$300.

Jagabo is right on the money. I have encountered the same problems with certain home recorded tapes. Poor signal, glitches, and temporary loss of control track can fool the DVD recorder into thinking that its seeing a copyguarded source.
