this is a vhs with super 8 footage on it. the attached file has three recordings of it all done with a jvc 9900u. the first clip is raw image with no hardware filters. the next is with video stabilazation. the third is with tbc/dnr. you can see my problem the one with tbc/dnr looks terrible. i would really appreciate someones input. thanks.

The capture had levels issues including clipping.

How are you capturing from Super8?

Also list equipment for "video stabilization" and TBC/DNR.

If you have the original super 8mm film, go back to that, and get it transferred properly.

    Otherwise, what edDV said^^^^!

    Cheers,

the vhs is the only thing i have. it was recorded for a super 8 reel years ago. the reels are gone so i just have to do the best i can with the vhs. im using the internal tbc/dnr in the jvc vcr. its a jvc hr 9900u. the video stabilization is also internal. can not be used in conjunction with tbc with this vcr, one or the other. so im new at this... what is clipping? thanks by the way. trying to learn this stuff and every project seems to be its own learning experience.

edDV, that JVC HR-S9900U is a high end JVC S-VHS VCR like others in the series. (I thought you've used one?)
More info on these JVC VCRs and the features.

The sample video has sync jitters and the timing crosses into the video values (bad luma/chroma, as ed points out). I see this a lot. The Panasonic AG series machines make the video darker, while the JVC series tends to exhibit other issues. It's a mess regardless of VCR.

You'd do well to use an ES10/ES15/ES25 with passthrough. This technique has been discussed many times at ...
... in various threads in the past 5 years.

Your other option is to just pay somebody to fix this one tape. It may be smarter/cheaper than buying more equipment. Plus somebody else may be able to do a better job.
