I record several segments to the HDD of this unit then burn a DVD. When i try to rip the dvd onto a computer for more editing I cant do it I've tried several programs and with some I can actually rip the video but the resulting MPG file always shows to be 9 hours long with a frame of the menu at the end so my editing software ulead and womble both freak out on the file and crash

1) Is the disc finalized?
2) Rip it with DVDDecrypter, IFO Mode, Stream Processing, uncheck the menu(I think it actually shows up as a subtitle?). If you are doing further editing you may also want to consider File Splitting NONE as an option as well.
3) Run the ripped material(whether you used Option 2 or not) through FixVTS?
