A local arts centre i work with are interested in buying a new DVD player for commerical screening of films from DVD. They already have a projector that is a couple of years old but unfortunately i can't get hold of anyone to find out the make and model at the moment. As i undertand it an upscaling DVD player will only upscale if used with an HD ready TV. Is this the same for projectors (ie if their projector is not HD will it be a waste of money getiing an upscaling player?)

    Hope that makes sense!

  2. The very few upconverting DVD-players(OPPO, Sony) I have looked at - all required an HDMI to upscale to HD; alas, they won't do it through component. However, I have not done a complete search on this topic.

    Good Luck

Thanks. Would something like this be any use:

    http://www.av-sales.co.uk/HDMI-VGA-CONVERTER-139-.htm

It converts HDMI to VGA (RGBHV) or Component. It doesn't explain whether this will result in an HD quality picture or if it would just give the sames results as using a non upscaling play with a Component connection.

You need to find out what the projector is and if it is capable of HD input. Most likely you will need to feed it 480i/29.97 over S-Video or 480i/29.97 over analog component or 480p/59.94 over analog component.
