Can't play SVCD's with PBC on my Pioneer DV-444

When I try to play some SVCD's the display says PBC, picture is black and only first 2 secs of sound is playing? I have tried to press everything on the remote but nothing happens!

Please help!

Mine works fine. What bitrate's, programs are you using?

I use VCDgear to convert from bin/cue then Nero 5.5.3.5, Standard compliant SVCD setting. If I burn direct from bin/cue same thing happens.
Usually bitrates from 1900-2400kb/s. All other SVCDS (without PBC showing) works perfectly fine!!

If you press '1' instead of 'play' on your remote, does that fix it?

Chances are that it won't, so it's not really down to your DV-444, just a coincidence!

I'm having a few problems with SVCD playback on my DV-444 but I think I've just about sorted them.
As a general suggestion, try downloading the SVCD clip from this site (in tools or SVCD <--) and then burning it with Nero. If it fails, try a different burning software ..... VCDEasy is a good benchmark.
