    Hello,

I have a series 6 LCD samsung tv. I have a video which i like to put into my external Hard drive and play on the TV but it doesn't show up, most likely because of the codec.

This is what codecs samsung says it can play:

The file format mkv is supported but i guess the video codec AVC and audio DTS is not. What what is the best formats/codec to convert to while keeping the quality high?

FYI: I am going to use "Quick media converter" to convert the files.

  2. What format was your hard drive? FAT32? NTFS? It may not be able to read NTFS. Can you see any files at all? If you make a few folders can you see them?

Even if it can't play the DTS audio in your file it would probably still show up in the file listing. The link you gave lists AVC/h.264 in MKV as supported. 12 ReFrames might be a problem but again, I think it would still show the file in the file list.

I check on the computer and the hard drive is in fat32.

  4. Format settings, ReFrames : 12 frames , this is over the tv capacity or limitations. Try to play videos between 15-20 mb/s and Reframes not higher than 5 and coding profile Format profile : High@L4.1.

Videos coded at High@L5.1 profile sometimes played sometimes not , try not to prefer this kind of videos.

  5. Who cares when it's changed from high 5.1 to 4.1 it play most of the time but can ff and rr slow or freeze (have problems) that's why you get the warning. It's the dts encode to aac or something then if not remove the menus some players have trouble.
edit: also try to remux to mp4 container.

    Update:

Ok, so i've changed the audio from DTS to AC3 with a freeware program called Popcorn MKV video converter from Heartware and it worked very well.

I can now view the videos and play them no problem, didn't need to get rid of menus or the 5.1 to 4.1.

Thanks very much for your helps
