Hi everyone![]()
I have just bought a portable hard drive media player with intention of downloading films on my laptop, moving them to the portable hard drive and then playing them on the TV. Not too ambitious I thought![]()
I cannot play direct through my TV because it is an old Sony Trinitron with one scart socket, and nothing else however it does have a nice big screen for films.
I tried last night to get the media player to play through the DVD recorder to the TV. The DVD recorder is currently connected to the TV with a scart cable and works fine playing and recording DVDs. I hooked the media player using supplied AV cable and connected it to the colour coded sockets at the front of DVD recorder marked video input (yellow) audio L (white) and audio R (red) input, other end plugged into AV out of hard drive. I set things up as I would for playing a DVD, pressing the AV button on the TV remote and then TV-DVDR button on recorder remote - the TV was taking signals from the DVD recorder and not showing terrestrial channels. However nothing happened, this seemed strange as the DVD recorder manual shows these sockets are for connecting other AV equipment such as Camcorder which (I assume) is in the same category of input device as the media player.
I then connected the AV cable to the video out (yellow) and audio L (white) and audio R (red) at the back of the DVD recorder. AT this point I did get a fuzzy moving picture of media station home page listed on page 14 of media player manual. I was able to navigate around the home page and follow links using the media player remote control but the picture remained distorted and merging into the default no disk screen of the DVD recorder. As the sockets plugged into are RCA video/audio out, I was suprised that there was any picture at all and more so that this worked better than plugging into the AVI video/audio in sockets at the front of the player.
Is there something I should be doing differently in the way I set things up?
There is also a Ypbpr cable supplied with the media player - what is the purpose of this? - should it be plugged in concurrently with the AV cable? There are three sockets round the back of the DVD recorder marked Cr/Y/Cb out - should the cable be plugged into one of these?
Many thanks for any advice
Matthew
