Saw an appleTV demo at CompUSA today...pretty cool. I'm curious about the file format(s) supported.

I know it takes H264 mp4s, but do they have to be encoded in HD (is that even possible?)? Could I run a ripped DVD main movie through iPod Video Converter using 720x480 frame size and a high bitrate, to get a high quality mp4 suitable for an HDTV? Would it be anywhere close to the original DVD's quality?

I assume that the mp4 videos one would buy from iTunes are not HD quality, so if it'll play those, then it should play almost anything encoded as H264, right?

    Thanks!
