I'm looking to convert HD-DVD to a format I can stream over my media player...

I'd like to see if anyone had any relative size comparisons between formats.

a HD-DVD is about 27GB so I'm looking for some favorable compression.

I have some DivX HD movies which are about ~ 2.2GB. Standard Divx movies are about ~ 1.3GB

Does anyone know the relative size diff between WMV HD and DivX HD?

For 1080p I would at least use 4-5Mbit for wmv or divx = around 4 gb for a movie. But you have to test yourself and see what is acceptable for you.

Not sure if I'm reading you correctly. I have standard DivX about 1.3GB and HD DivX about 2.2GB... That is my baseline experience.

I've now enterered the HD-DVD arena and so I want to convert HD-DVD to either DivX HD or WMV HD for streaming. The source is 27GB which is pretty large. Are you saying that the compression for either should take the 27GB down to 4GB?

My first pass through is experimental using Windows Media Encoder...unfortunately I set the -v_quality 100 instead of -v_quality 96. Needless to say the file is fickin' huge...approaching 18GB!!! I'm letting it run just to make sure it makes it through the cycle. I will correct the quality setting but I'm hoping the file size is substantially less. I would be tickled if 4GB is the size range for good quality WMV HD files.
