hi, first post so bear with me.
I have a Liteon DVD writer and am running Nero 7, currently trying to burn onto DVD-R discs.
My problem is that before I formatted my harddrive I was able to burn AVI files through Nero Vison 7 which it would encode and produce a DVD which worked in my standalone player. However since I reinstalled XP I havent been able to produce a DVD which works on my stand alone player.
I started by selecting the AVI file in Nero, and it got to the part where you preview it (the remote control page before burn page) but the AVI file wouldnt play in the preview, if I carried on and tried burning it, it just crashed Nero after 30 seconds of trying to burn.
I read somewhere to intstall the K-Lite codec which I have just done, and voila it burns the disc perfectly - howver it still wont work in my standalone DVD player, but WILL play in my standalone Karaoke player (which presumably is able to play a variety of formats other than DVD).
I think my problem must be in the format of my final disc as it clearly works on my karaoke machine but not on a standard DVD player. I know its not the discs or the recorder as before I formatted the hard drive it worked fine. Any suggestions on what Im doing wrong???
PLEASE HELP AS ITS DRIVING ME INSANE!!!!!
Many Many thanks for any replies

Bit of a long shot but check your ISO settings.
In the Compilation Properties there are 6 tabs (at least there are on my version of Nero) one of which is labeled ISO - Make sure ALL the relaxations are NOT checked, the file name are 8+3 and the character set is ISO 9660 -
Hi, thanks for your reply. I think you are right in what you say but I cant find the "Compilation Properties" tab anywhere. Could you give me step by step instructions on how to find that, I cant see it in Nero Startsmart or Nerovision.
Many thanks -
get rid of that awful k-lite codec pack and install the proper codec for the video file you are converting (most likely it will be divx or xvid) .... k-lite codec pack will caurse more codec problems than it fixes ... bin it.

I get the option in two places
In the Edit Menu I have a Properties option and that brings up the compilation properties and in there is the ISO tab.
Also when I come to burn the DVD I get a similar set of options presented which again has an ISO tab.
I'm just noticed I'm running Nero 6 (idiot that I am I've not noticed before) so this may be totally wrong for your version.

Im running Nero 7 and there is no edit function or setting option at burn stage, however I did find a setting page on NERO BURNING ROM option and all settings are as you said they should be, getting more and more wound up!!. Going to try and uninstall klite codec and install a divx one to see if that works. will keep you posted. Thanks for your continuing support.

Hi,
I have tried doing all those things now and still to no avail. It is still doing exactly what it was doing before. Ive even tried installing the latest version of Nero (on trial) to see if that would help but it hasnt.
Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to make Nero burn a DVD into the format of a standalone dvd player- would burning onto DVD+R discs make a difference? at the moment Im burning onto DVD-R?
HELP HELP HELP!!
This is soooo frustrating -
Forget Nero ... use convertxtodvd instead ... that should give you a dvd that will play in almost all players (i say almost all because there are a few older players that cannot play burned dvds of any type)

Bizarrely enough Ive got it working!!
The solution:
...... this is well worth it (only 2 weeks of pulling my hair out!)
....I used a different make of DVD-R!!!
Why on earth that was the problem is beyond me, Ive been using the same discs on the same standalone player for about a year now. Just tried a mates "Tesco home brand" DVD-R and it worked first time???!!
Think theres a lesson learnt in here somewhere!.
Thanks for all you help guys (and girls?), will try that other software as well, nothing to lose. Will be back if I have any more probs, off to get the champagne out.
All the best

Afterthought:
Changed to decrpyptxtodvd and found it to be much better than nero, less hassle, just straight froward burning which has worked every time.
Weirdly enough Nero is again not working now, so I have enough of it and wont be recommending it in future.
Cheers again
