I was wondering if for mostly internet and regular DV editing
are 2 screens better then one?
I dont think I need wide screen since I do not watch films on my comp
but Should I get 2 19" or, for the same $ get one ~22-24" ?

    thank you

I use a dual monitor setup at work and love it. Even web surfing is nice with two windows opened. For editing with Photoshop, I can have the menus on one screen and the graphics on the other. I just use 15" LCD monitors, so they really don't take up that much space. I've got a dual head video card, but I could have done it with one card with VGA to one monitor and DVI to the other.

  3. Two screens are better, than a 22~24" wide screen.

I would prefer two monitors over one for video editing, especially with programs like Adobe Premiere and Sony Vegas that have a lot of windows and menus.
Same for photo editing; I can have the photo 'explorer", organizer, whatever you want to call it, on one screen and the editing program on the other.

Desk space is the reason I've not done it. I think a 24" widescreen LCD is enough for me. I have huge previews plus room for all the tool windows, and sometimes even a little room to spare.

  6. I have a dual monitor arrangement. For the second monitor, I actually use a Sony video monitor (i.e., a proper studio NTSC/PAL affair).

I can either have it hooked up to the secondary output on the PC or feed the output from a DV camcorder/video recorder to it. The advantage of using a "proper" video monitor for the video aspect of video editing is that the gamma response is correct.

Many video applications - including our own - support secondary displays. It's great to have the application on the main display at a high resolution (e.g., 1600 x 1200) and have secondary one at a lower resolution for the video (esp if connected via S-video to a video monitor etc).

I'm toying with buying a second PC monitor, so that I can leave the Sony video monitor dedicated to NTSC/PAL video. Then I'll have a three-monitor arrangement....

I hate to be contrary to popular opinion, but I believe I have exceeded the "sweet spot" when it comes to dual monitors. I was recently set up with dual 22" widescreens. While the massive amount of screen real estate is welcome, getting to the start menu is a mouse travel of almost three feet of screen space! Plus, the constant ping-ponging of the neck is starting to get painful...

Why not arrange them one above the other (instead of side by side)?

    I use a 2 19" computer monitor + 27" video monitor setup for editing.

The video monitor is fed from the IEEE-1394 port through a ADVC-100 or a DV camcorder.

Separately, I run a second computer + monitor for web access and PVR recording. Then there is the laptop.

"Extended desktop" or "Theater Mode" depending on application being used.

This is just based on my own experience with Viewsonc. I had terrible customer service when I needed to RMA a lcd monitor that was still under warranty. It took 2 months to get a brand new 19 inch lcd from them. After repeated phone conversations within a 1 1/2 month span w/customer service I finally got a brand new lcd monitor. The RMA process supposedly only takes 15 days for the turn around period but mine took 1 month. First unit they sent to me was worse than the one I sent in to RMA. I ended up talking to some supervisor to bitch about their shitty runaround service. He then assured me I would get a brand new lcd monitor.

The only good thing I have to say about Viewsonic is they paid for the shipping cost when I had to send back that crappy unit they first sent to me and they also paid for shipping for the brand new monitor. So I guess to make up for the shitty customer service they paid for the those 2 shipping charges. After all of this I don't know if I'd wanna buy another Viewsonic lcd monitor.

I prefer 2 24" monitors. My workstation has 2x21" CRT's, and my new desktop has a 24" LCD, soon to be brother to a second 24" LCD.

I'll pile onto Viewsonic by saying they and Fry's.com don't honor their $50 rebates. I'm still in dispute with Fry's.com and may picket Viewsonic next time I'm in the Bay Area. I'm really pissed at them.
