  1. I have a DLink DSM-510 that refuses anything in DIVX5 for some reason. I need to batch convert to something else. Dlink says mpeg4 is supported. I tried ffmpg but the results were horrible. Also played with AutoGK, but that's like 5hr/movie! How can I take the existing .ave (DIVX5) and easily convert to XVID, or just get rid of what my media player chokes on?

I have a slow Wintel laptop and pretty fast Sparc and HPUX boxes to use for this.

    Thx,

Change the FourCC from DX50 to XVID. This works since DivX 5 and Xvid are both MPEG-4. Really the file should already work and I doubt that changing the fourCC would help.

I'd start by looking at the specs of any files that don't work. Do they use qpel or GMC? Shouldn't really be a problem anyway since most players these days can handle qpel and 1 warp point GMC.

Try change one avi with AVI FourCC Code Changer and see if it works. If that wont help I guesss it may be a qpel or gmc problem as celtic mentions, you can batch convert the avis with avi recomp.

  5. You can check for GMC, QPEL, and Packed Bitstream with MPEG4Modifier.
