I'm looking for DVD Recorders w/ Hard Disc Drives.
What's available? With most disappearing fast I would appreciate some help on what may be a good choice from the leftovers.
I have a thread about the Toshiba XS-35 elsewhere on the forum but not sure if it's what I'm really wanting.
Basically I love my Pioneer 640H-s so I dont need and prefer to not have any TVGuide built in. I'd rather record straight from my DishNet sat or other devices input the way I do with the Pioneer.
It seems the TVGOS are troublesome and I would at least like to be able to bypass it. That would be ok...bypass it and record manually.
I'm not near any merchants and for some reason I'm not getting much from Google.
Also does anyone know if new lines or models will be coming in the future (2007) maybe or even early 2008?
It seems I am out of the loop and would greatly appreciate any input, fact or speculation is fine. What would you do?
Thanks very much,
NL

Elec Warehouse, an internet authorized dealer, (Nathan) cancelled my outstanding order for 2-Pio640s today. Its "officially discontinued." None available, he says.
When I mentioned Pio did not announce a replacement at 2007 CES, he said an announcement during May-June may be coming. A glimmer of hope?
As of today, there are scattered reports of Pio640s being found at Rex stores in Ohio.
A new Pio640 sold on eBay last night (in hours) at the "Purchase it Now" price of $275.

DirecTV and Charter cable were each advertising a DVR with DVD recorder as a future product and both companies have cancelled and pulled the advertisements.
Currently, the best solution is to get a DVR/HD DVR from your SAT/Cable supplier (or TIVO) to handle your recording and then a standalone DVD Recorder. All of the units that I have used allow manual recording or timed recording using a program guide.Google is your Friend -
Despite the current trenf I still want to use a hard disc equipped recorder with my hard disc equipped DVR. With a hd DVD recorder I can chapter where I want easily. I can set it to record say 1 hr. 50 minutes speed for a 1 hr. 48 minute video overnight and then trim the ends later on. And so on.....

Thanks for the help, guys.
garyjo, really appreciate the "glimmer of hope" about the "maybe" announcement in May-June time frame. Form what I am getting, reading around, it seems a lot has to do with the type of "tuners" the new models will have. I might be off base there but it appears that the High Def time frame is a factor about what kind of units will become available.
TBoneit, that's me. I am in the same boat as far as what I want to be able to do.
Thanks.
Hey, opinions are fine too...100 views and 2 replies. I thought everyone here had an opinion.
I do appreciate taking time to reply. Many thanks and I'll keep checking.
