Hi there. I was lucky enough to receive the "American chopper" series 3 dvd (actually 3 dvd's) from the missus for christmas. Being a complete newbie to any of this stuff i was surprised when my dvd player wouldnt play the discs. (It said wrong code). So I then tried them on the pc and it informed me that I am region 2 and the disc is region 1 (I am in the uk and the disc was bought online from America). So can anyone suggest how I could make a copy of the discs using my dvd writer on the pc and change the region to region 2? Or am I stuck with watching American Chopper on discovery? Just for the record the only dvd software I have is Nero. Cheers for any help.

Make a backup with DVDDecrypter or DVDShrink - The copy will be region free.
Then comes the hurdle with different TV systems (the DVD is most likely NTSC while your DVD player/TV is PAL) but as most PAL gear handles NTSC without problem, that will probably not be an issue for you.

What is your DVD player ? A better solution, longer term, is to make it region free if you can.

Thanks for the advice, I got the dvd decrypter software but it wouldnt work as I had no space on my hard drive. I have since had a hard drive clean up and have enough space now. I decrypted the disc but there are now lots of files and they are to big to all go on a dvd. I have got nero, but which files do I need to put on the dvd using nero? Here is a list of the files.[/img]

Before you go down that route check if your DVD player can be made region free.

I dont think it is poss to make it region free. There is no visible switch on the front or back of the machine and nothing in any of the on screen menus. Its an older cheap machine (in fact its a surround sound system with fm receiver and dvd all in one)

Searching for this player on the DVD Players link at this website showed the following region free hack, which may or may not work:

    1. Press Power on from your remote control to boot up your Lenoxx HT-600

    2. Press the Open button on your remote control to open the disc tray
    3. Press the Volume button on your remote control until to the maximum value.

    4. Press the Language button on your remote control.

    5. The onscreen display will indicate the currently selected region
    6. Using the Down button on your remote control, change the region to 1 for region 1, 2 for region 2, and so on.

    7. Press the Enter button on your remote control

Let us know if it does not work. You can burn the DVDs files you ripped, but it's going to be a long answer as you have to consider whether or not you want to (or even can) burn to dual layer media and whether or not Nero is the best choice for burning DVDs. I'd rather not write the long, complicated explanation unless you really need it.

This is from another forum -

Hi guys i'm new to this but i found some more info out about this unit.

The hack described with the volume up thing does work, but as that other user said you have to be superfly (think that means very quickly) on pressing the language button as soon as max appears. Instead of tapping the volume up, i switch on with the remote, press open, hold (don't tap just hold the) volume + till MAX appears then instantly press language. Then
choose region 0 to unlock then enter.

Those of you who were a bit gutted about it not staying unlocked when you switch off, well if you perservere and keep switching on, doing the code (setting region to 0), pressing enter then switching off again. Do this about five times and it locks on 0 so you don't need to do it again. You'll find when it locks when you put the code in after a switch off and its already at 0 before you choose.

    Hope this helps.

    You guys kick azz!!

    It worked 1st time.

1)Switched it on with the remote.
    2)Opened disc draw.
    3)Held down volume til max.
4)As I released the volume button I pressed the Language button.
5)Pressed the up button a few times til it said 0

    and it worked.

Just to be sure, will region 0 play any region of dvd?

but certain region 1 DVDs may not play in region 0 mode. If you try to play an American DVD in region 0 mode and it refuses to play with a strange error message, change the region mode to 1 and it will play.

Certain American companies got angry about region free DVD players, so they figured out a way to make it harder for people to play region 1 discs outside of the region. All region 1 discs don't do this, but some do. Basically, the DVD player and DVD have a conversation like this:
DVD: I'm a region 2 disc. What region are you?
Player: I'm region 0 so I can play you.
DVD: I lied! I'm really region 1. If you had told me that you couldn't play me because you were region 1, I would have started, but since you say you can play me, that means you're not a region 1 DVD player and I won't start.
The solution is like I said - change the region to 1 and the disc will play. I've forgotten what this type of protection is called. It's just a nuisance to fool people outside of region 1 who might not realize that changing their region free player from region 0 to region 1 will defeat it because the disc thinks it's being played by a region 1 player and all is normal.

It's called RCE (Regional Code Enhancement).

Thats so gay. If you have shelled out good money for the dvd then who gives a toss wot region it is? My case is a prime example. It shouldnt matter about the region. The disc is payed for and they still do everything they can to squeeze a few more pennies out of you. Even devious tricks like the one you explained above. Wots it all coming to? (apologies for saying gay) (but it is)
