  1. I Have a 400 disc dvd player filled to the brim with discs. I have decided to try and digitize the discs and in effect "future-proof" them. Does anyone have some suggestions for converting DVD's to a small file without sacrificing much quality?

I began to do some research about Divx, but wanted to ask some experts before I started to actually convert some discs.

How big would a DVD9 and a DVD5 be if they were a single DIVX file? Would quality be similar to the DVD version?

Would DIVX file's work on my ps3?

Any suggestions for software? Preferably free, but I would be willing to pay for a quality program.

    Thanks for your help.

but sounds like much work to install linux...

As it supports h264 I would use it instead. But there aren't that many easy to use converters for it yet. You have PS3 Video 9 but I don't how good it as with the h264 encoding.
