My Pioneer DVR 520-H is plugged in and when I press POWER it keeps displaying POWER ON and the timer indicator flashes, but the HDD will not turn on. I was wondering if anyone knows of an alternate way to reset the HDD, other than the way listed in the user manual, because it needs to be TURNED on for it to reset that way. Is there a button or something???

Ohh... why does it have to be Saturday....???? Pioneer's customer service is CLOSED for the weekend......

When the hard drive crashed on my DVR-510H the unit powered on but there was an error message telling me to initialize the hard drive (which couldn't be done because the drive was damaged). So your problem may not be a hard drive crash. I suggest unplugging the unit for at least 10 minutes and then plugging it back in. Select the DVD rather than the HDD. If you can get the drawer to open insert a disc and try to play it. See if you can get that side of the recorder to play. Then, if possible, see if you can get the hard drive side working.

I only know the reset that the manual reports.

I can't select DVD, because the unit hasn't really turned on. Also the drawer will not open.

Unplug it for a few hours like Frobozz said.

If it still won't work - send it our for repairs.
