OK, I'm getting down to the line Here. After reading eveyones answer to my previous questions (thank you all) I'm leaning towards buying the SONY DRX-830U external DVD Writer. There is only one comment on this unit and it is pretty vague. I do have a USB 2.0 port even though it supposedly supports 1.1 also.

I know someone else has this unit and would like to get thier feedback on operation and quality.

Also this comes with NERO 7.0 In the past everyone recommended Nero but reading the reviews it doesn't seem that everyone has a favorable opinion of it.

I presently have Roxio which just about everyone said get rid of it. I've never really had any problem with it and burned a couple hundred DVD's before my HP200j crapped out.

So anyone have any favorable opinions on Nero 7.0

Also just to show my stupid side, exactly What is A Fire Wire?

You do not want to use USB1.1 for DVD writers.

According to the DVD Writer list on this site, this is a rebadged Toshiba-Samsung drive.

Given the premium pricing of the Sony product I can see no reason to purchase it. There are other vendors selling rebaged Toshiba-Samsung drives for less.

As for Nero - the criticisms of it are real but don't keep me from using it. But unless you are unhappy with Roxio, or if the new drive you buy won;t run with it, you could probably continue to use it.
