does anyone know how to burn multiple AVI files on to a DVD-R without converting? i have been having trouble burning them to my DVD. I read all the guides and used all kinds of programs such as Nero 7 or WinAVI but no use. I think it is something like making a data-DVD. Yes i know it won't play on my DVD player if i want to make the DVD like that. i just want to know if any program or something will allow me to burn them straight to the DVD without converting. if you know then how can i do it.

My friend it able to do this with ace.

    Please! Can anyone help.

    Thanks in advance.

Imgburn will happily do this, assuming they fit . . . . .

You are looking to make a DATA disc, any burning app out there should do this including the various free ones. WinAvi converts to DVD-Video compliant files... wrong choice. Nero should do this easily. With Nero Express (note: NOT NeroVision) from the opening page choose DATA-> DATA Disc, then start 'Adding' till the disc is full.

From the drive listing on this site it seems this isn't the greatest drive in the world when it comes to media. Try a different disc, preferably a DVD+R as -R is problematic.

There may be other things here that I'm not catching, but one thing I see:

You've chosen ISO9660 as the filesystem. Not good. Compliant DVDs should be either UDF (v1.02) alone or a UDF/ISO bridge format. That could be giving you trouble, especially with larger sized AVI files. (That might be what's happening even though it throws a different error message)

Also, FWIW, you might do better with different/better media. Ritek is good, but variable. (and, contrary to oldfart13's observation, I've never had any trouble with good or better DVD-Rs)

    HTH,
    Scott

Well it's a Lite-on rebadge and as such you'll get no help from Sony.

    https://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters.php?DVDname=DW-D22A&Submit=Search&oem=&chipset=&cd...&Search=Search

The RITEK F1's (16X I presume?) tend to be problematic for many and might be too new for your old drive. Maybe some older 8X discs might be a better choice. Any updated firmware available will be many years old.

    Maybe some help here.

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/312424

Might just be best to just get a new burner (not Sony) as they are cheap these days.

As an example here's a well reviewed burner that can be had (bulk) for under $30.

I am concerned that what may be happening is that Nero thinks it is burning a data CD not a data DVD and this is the real problem. I think Cornucopia is on to something.

I advise NOT using Nero Express but using Nero in the normal mode to burn a data DVD. It's not that much harder to learn to use than Nero Express. compgeek01 can drag and drop the files over to make a data DVD, which should default to UDF 1.02. If this doesn't burn correctly (use DVD+RW or DVD-RW if you can), let us know. The "Illegal disc" error also bothers me as that could either mean trying to burn a DVD when Nero is expecting a CD or something is wrong with the media.

thanks guys but i think my drive needs a frimware because i read some guides online they mentioned that this drive needs a new firmware update. I have tried some different disc types and i just can't afford a new drive yet. Do you guys happen to have a firmware update link?

I think it's safe to say from the log that Nero knows it's a DVD. And it is not unusual for older 8X rated burners to have problems with newer 16X discs.

The OP seems to be wanting to simply save/backup his AVIs as DATA which will result in Nero Express writing an 'ISO9660, Joliet' disc which is the correct choice... not UDF.

does anyone know how to burn multiple AVI files on to a DVD-R without converting?
Nero Express would correctly write an 'ISO9660, UDF' disc if 'DVD-Video files' (which the OP's AVI's are not, hence in this case Nero Express would not proceed) was originally selected. Although many knock Nero, Nero Express does understand and correctly chooses the proper format.

Didn't I provide you with a starting point?

These days i have bought some cheap blanc DVD +R and tried to burn them with SONY DVD RW DW-D22A BYS3. I have thrown 4 out of 6 because the error was that i could read only about half on each disk.
Then I started thinking maybe my DVD RW needs a firmware update.
I was afraid to update it about a year ago when I bought the device, but now i said, what the hell... So I have checked out google and I discovered the site http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html and http://codeguys.rpc1.org/dvdrw_overview.html where I found that was no update for my device, but that my device was the same with Sony DRU-710A (rebadged LiteOn SOHW-1633S/1653S).
So I followed the instructions and I used "BYX5 - patched - crossflashing, multi-colored LED (for 1213S, 1613S, 1653S, etc.)" for updating and everything was great.

    No.

ALL DVD discs are really DATA discs (whether DVD-VIDEO application, DVD-AUDIO application, plain files, or any combination of the above). Which means they should ALL be using UDF as their main (in not ONLY) filesystem.
(Note: DVD-Video and DVD-Audio are just special-purpose versions of Data with special extra requirements, but that's all).
