Okay, so I'm looking at getting a new burner (111D) and now I find the 112.

Any pros/cons from one to the next?

Suggestions? Keep in mind they are basically the same price.

    TIA

Check out the PIONEER FORUM at CdFreaks.com for info. There are some threads regarding the 112. The only real difference between the 2 drives is the 112 can burn 18x spd for single layer dvd media and 10x spd for dual layer dvd media. Some have said the even numbered models from PIONEER aren't as good as the odd numbered models. I've only had the PIONEER models 107D & 111 series.

  3. I agree with budz - the Pioneer forum at CdFreaks.com is very active. If this is to be your only burner I would go with the 111D. It's been out for awhile and is known to be an extremely solid performer. The 112 may very well be just as good but not enough time in the marketplace to be certain yet. Good luck.

Ditto, I have the PIO 111, very solid, I'd go with that one.

The 111 is proven to be good while the 112 is yet unknown, and there's cross flashing firmware for the 111 to gain auto bit setting and DVD-RAM. I'm unsure if that's available yet for the 112, but it probably will be. I like my first 111 so well that I got another when NewEgg had them for $29 with free shipping.

Crossflashing of the 112 to enable bitsetting to dvdrom is available but not with the latest firmware from PIONEER.

I got a 111D from Frys in January that was DOA for recording. I discovered this after the Fry's 15day return limit but for once* they took pity and exchanged it. The second one works fine so far for +R and -R. I've only tried +R dual layer HP so far and those work. So far it works with all the -R media that didn't work in my Sony/Lite-On.

    * gotta give Frys a stroke when they sometimes get it right. I'm currently doing battle with them to get my $50 Viewsonic rebate.

The 112 is a good follow up for the 111, not more I believe.
