I have it narrowed down to these two. Very simliar burners; Both got pretty much the same marks review-wise on NewEgg... Which would you choose and why? Or should I buy one of each (I need two burners)

    Aren't these the same?

    The "Glossary" is your friend:

The glossary didn't really help me determine if they're the same or different...

"Advanced Technology Attachment Packet Interface is a interface to support CD Drives and DVD Drives using the computers current ATA(IDE/EIDE) connections."

In other words, ATAPI adds capability to IDE interfaces. So essentially the same, but not quite. So, strictly speaking, the correct answer to your "same or different?" question is "yes"

Thanks Jim, I do understand it now. Any input as to which of the two drives I should get? If I don't get something definitive saying one or the other, I'm going to buy one of each

Well, the Pioneer is out of stock at Newegg (probably being replaced by the 112D?). The 111D seemed to be pretty well regarded over at the ImgBurn forums. Both the Pioneer and the Samsung are the same price, no real difference in specs - flip a coin (I have no input one way or the other).
