I know I can come here and get an answer. LOL I have a a laptop HP DV9205US with a HP EC680 or Yuan 680 express card tv tuner. It comes with a Cable connection and a dongle with a composite video hook up. I would like to know what software I can use to record VHS on that hookup. I tried nero and it leaves something to be desired. Anybody have ideas?
Thanks

I don't know if these will work for sure but some popular choices include:
1.) VirtualVCR
2.) iuVCR
3.) TheFlyDS
Those are in no particular order although the first two are more popular than the last one but when I had a simple "TV TUNER" type card I found that TheFlyDS worked best for me. But every card and computer configuration is different. VirtualVCR is probably the best for audio sync IF it works with your hardware. As for me I had sync issues with it no matter what I did.
Anyways I would try one or more of those programs and for the video use 720x480 for NTSC or 720x576 for PAL and use the HuffyUV video codec. For audio use 16-bit 48k Stereo PCM WAV audio.

chrisTV had a free version which did not record, but they also had a trial of the PRO version that was free 28 day trial with NO limitations it gave pretty decent reults when i tried it out during the olympics ..more important is the thru put speed of the CPU and the frtside bus since all this is software encoding, CPU and bus speed are premium
a card with hardware encoding will give better thruput and less likely to drop frames and as a bonus it will create smaller files saving them directly into mpeg2 DVD compatible files
