  1. I have a 698MB avi file

    Audio:
    1:53:56
    132kbps
    MP3

    Video:
    23fps
    104kbps
    XviD

When I try to burn it to a video DVD with Nero, Nero tells me that it will use 4.37 of 4.38GB. After transcoding is completed Nero Grinds to a halt saying that the video will not fit on the DVD.
My feeling is that it is just a little bit oversized and needs it's final size trimmed a small amount.

Any suggestions as to how to deal with this problem so that I can get it burned while sacrificing as little quality as possible?
    Thx

I wouldn't use Nero for transcoding; but given you have, you can squeeze the files to fit.

I don't know what you have: an MPEG file? A VIDEO_TS fileset (VOBs, etc)? A separate M2V and AC3?
    Regardless:

    Get ReJig.

If you have a MPEG, skip this step:

    IFO mode.
    Select your VTS_01_0.IFO file
    Tick both streams
    Demux video
    Exit

    Open File mode
Select your new video file and choose comression % to fit.

    Exit

    Open DVD Author mode
Select your compressed video and original audio.
    Create.

Burn the new VIDEO_TS (in Nero if you like).

Best option - ConvertXtoDVD if you need a one-click solution.

Otherwise, encode poorly with Nero, then use DVD Shrink (or Nero Recode) to make the results fit.

  4. Thx guys. I have no problem with throwing the Nero project file out and beginning this all over again. I am curious about ConvertXtoDVD. It seems to be the easiest option so I'll give it a try. If I have any problems, I'll be back with questions.
    Thx again

In Nero Vision you just have to lower the bitrate a bit. It's 'Standard Quality' default setting is 5073kb/s. Choose 'Custom' and set it to 4900 kb/s.

  6. Thx MysticE.
I have gotten this one burned with ConvertXtoDVD. But, that info will come in handy the next time I have this problem with Nero Vision.
