Hi all,
I have a few questions about Autogk. I love he program and have it both my laptop and my desktop computer. I have just recently been having huge issues with the program on my laptop. I like converting my DVD movies to xvid format and to remove all the extras and such so I have a nice backup of the original dvd. This is one of the newest issues that I might add has just started.
I normally did most of my editing on my desktop because the specs are a bit better and such. I figured though my laptop could handle Autogk. (2.0ghrtz, 1gigddr, ati graphics ect.) I did sucessfully convert a few files from dvd to xvid.
But nowAnytime I try to use Autogk onanyfile:
1) It seems to take forever to do anything(much longer than usual)
2) It never completes because it forces the computer to Autoshutdown.
After this shutdown
My computer acts like a piece of super fragmented, spyware containing, virus infeceted POS.
Opening applications and even going online, everything slows downs and "loads" slowly like I mentioned above.(only for about 30 minutes or so)
My computer is 100% virus free, spyware malware, (from my scans) and it seems very wierd.
I dunno because I keep my laptop fairly clean at all times. And it can play games and do some very stressfull aplications but when it comes to Autogk. it can't handle it.
Maybe a crappy version of Autogk?I'm thinking I may have a hardware issue? Maybe overheating?? If so Is there a possible way to check my hardware in my laptop(for free) and see the problem? Any recomendations?

Doesn't sound like a clean virus free or malware clean PC to me!!! what anti virus, spyware progs. r u running?
see this: http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?showforum=27" Who needs Google, my wife knows everything" -
Several possibilities. First I would try a different converter program with the same sort of conversion. Maybe FairUse Wizard. There's a freeware version available on it's tool page. This is just to see if the conversion is the problem or something AutoGK is doing specifically. I assume you have tried to uninstall and reinstall AutoGK?
It could be overheating. Most CPUs drop to a lower speed when they overheat. But that doesn't really explain the temporary file corruption. Try running AGK with the Task Manager open, on 'Performance'. It may be that the CPU is running at 100%. It should be doing this during the encode, but should go back to normal when it restarts. How much free space do you have on your hard drive? Have you defragged it lately?
One other problem might have to do with the codecs AGK is using. One of them may be corrupt. Running a different converter program may answer that. Or you could run Codec Sniper and see if it finds anything wrong with them. I listed codec problems last, but that may really be what is causing this.
If you rule out a malware problem, then it's likely a software problem and less likely a hardware problem. Have you installed any program lately that might interfere with the system? Such as antivirus, other conversion programs, games that may have made changes in your system. Those are all long shots, though.
If all else fails, try using the Windows 'Restore' function to go back to a time before you had problems.
That's all I can think of, but someone may have had a similar problem and could give better advice. -

All updated and full scanned. Nothing found, pretty sure this isn't the issue.

I currently have 15gig free (low end) on my 100gig hard drive, I know thats fairly low but it should be a good amount. ( i defragged//cleaned/updated/ a few days ago..but problem was b4 that anyways)

I'll update you after the re-install of a different version of autogk... I got my old version from some other websight and not this one so maybe that was the issue all along....hopefully anyways.
I will also run that program you mentioned as well. Yah possibly some codec pack i installed as well.. I did add some Gordion knot codec pack "i think" on my laptop... not an autogk, maybe its that. -
Update:
Well system restored and laptop is running like a charm, Codec Sniper (even though I read that my be an older version(1st comment)) said all codecs are working so maybe not the issue.
Re-downloading and installing Autogk as we speak. -
What percentage of free space do you have on your hard disc? Disc fragmentation may be a problem on your laptop. When you have everything on one hard disc, it gets fragmented very quickly with video encoding etc. Frequent defragmentation is a good idea.

Possible that your system is overheating ?

New autogk is installed and encoding audio....laptop shut down agian.
It shut down at the same part as last time...encoding audio. and no i don't have "shut down when completed" checked, if curious.
Hrm, Maybe it is a codec issue?! Is there any codec program that is very up to date that I could try? Or overheating, god I hope it's not overheating. What program can I check for that?
I'm really starting to run out of ideas.
EDIT//Update:
If you have any suggestions//comments please leave them I have decided I will transfer these movies to my main computer and hopefully encode them on that. Maybe an overheating issue or some sort of software conflict or something, but I'm not spending days working on this(I don't have that sort of time) -
I had a similar problem with AutoGK. It would get to the audio encoding part, and my desktop would just "freeze". My solution was to download the latest Lame MP3, unzip it, and replace the files in the "tools/lame" folder in AutoGK. I don't know if this will work for you or not, but maybe worth a try...
I too went through the "overheating" phase. Thought that might be it...even downloaded some temperature tools...uninstalled AutoGK, reinstalled, still didn't work, uninstalled again, still no luck. Then, I noticed that it always "froze" at approximately the same place-during the lame encoding of the audio.just a thought

I tryde the exact same movie on my main computer and no problems occured(well it's currently 15% into second pass, with zero errors and 95.10% quality). So it's not autogk, something is messed on my laptop..any ideas?

Get a can of compressed air with the straw nozzle attachment and blow out the dust as well.
