  1. Hi, I just bought a region 2 Samsung DVD-V6800 and did the region code hack listed on this site (code 57538) and it unlocked the region but now when I play a region 1 disc in it, it only plays in black and white. Anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks in advance for the replies.

  2. Forgot to say I have a CMD-1500 video converters also hooked to the TV aand I tried it with 2 different DVD recorders linked on the other end and I got color with ever other thing (including multi system VHS decks) I used there and I made sure the connections were right since I had some other units in place as my "playing ones" before getting these so these should work in the way in which I hooked them up)

Region Code removal doesn't change the video format(PAL to NTSC and vise versa).

You'll have to check the setup and see if you can change the TV output to NTSC. If there is no option to change the TV output, then you are screwed. You could spend a lot of money on either a TV that can display PAL signals or a video standards converter, but either would cost a lot more than buying, say, an Oppo Digital DVD player that can easily be made region free and can convert PAL DVD video to NTSC.

I would not advise anyone to buy any DVD player overseas and simply hope it can be made region free. Your post is why.

  6. I actually bought two of these one for each TV and the other one hooked up fine so it obviously DOES work in the U.S. I'll check check the TV output as you say, thanks.

  7. OK, I'm almost there...

I just recently bought 2 of the Samsung DVD-V6800 DVD/VCR combos, did the region hacks, etc. and I hooked them up to 2 different TV's as "playing" decks (I had previously bought 2 CMD-1500 PAL/NTSC video converters for each TV). I have 2 other NTSC DVD recorders hooked up to my TV through my cable box ("Line 1") then I have the Samsung's as Line 2 after running the RCA's through the converters to the NTSC DVD recorders. Anyways, both TV's can handle the PAL signal just fine, I just had to get these Samsungs to replace some other multi region DVD/VCR combos I had before that died. Anyways I simply put these two in place of my old players and one can play both PAL & NTSC DVD and VHS just fine but the other one will only play PAL DVD's not NTSC ones (and it plays the player menus fine and in color etc. so the connection is obviously OK). When I play with the converter on that particular set-up while a region 1/NTSC DVD is playing I can only either get a stable black and white picture or a rolling color picture. Any idea on what I need to do to get it to play stable color NTSC picture on this one? The VCR output etc. are the same when I look them both up in the menu. Once I can figure this out I'll be all set. Thanks again in advance for replies.
