I'm a Premiere and AE user - I use Virtualdub - what audio edit apps would you recommend for me? Is Sony Vegas a good audio solution - better than Premiere? I'm considering switching to Vegas for video. Tell me please though, what are your favorite standalone audio apps. Thanks!

It really depends on what you are used to. I like Vegas a lot, and also use Sound Forge for audio editing. It is very different to Premiere in many ways, so if you are used to working the Premiere way, you will have to allow for adjustments. Vegas' audio capabilities are very strong, as it evolved out of an audio editor to being with.

You also need to look at other factors - the integration between AE and Premiere certainly isn't there with Vegas. If you have a large plugin collection you will find that most are not available for Vegas.

Having used Premiere for several years (and battled with instability and other issues with it), and having since moved to Vegas a few years back, I would never return to Premiere out of choice.

I've used Wavelab for years. Absolutely love that app- one of the few apps I've ever bought and felt like it was worth the money. Really like the ability to test out VST and DirectX plugins in real time as the wav is playing back.

For freeware, however, the latest Beta of Audacity is pretty great. There are around 50 new sound plugins for it. Gotta hand it to the developers, they made a sound editor than can stand up to the commercial counterparts.
