I have checked the forum and put some search for this subject but could find anything.

I have some rmvb files and would like to convert them to divX or Xvid. I have read the ffmpeg user's page and installed the different encoders including reallib. I tried the Helix one but could not make my way thru it.
I tried to play the rmvb movie in ffmpeg. It played in mplayer but a little slow and funny sound. When trying to convert it to Xvid or DivX with ffmpeg, it clinged rapidly and made an empty file.
Do you have any solution to convert real player movies to divX or Xvid ?
    Thanks

    AFAIK, without Real's properitary studio,
    you can't convert it.

What many of us have done is do an end run,
and "hijack" the Real Player ( v. 10, available here)
with apps such as Snapz X Pro or my new fav, iShowU
to a Quicktime file, and you can bounce that to any
flavor of avi ( xvid, divx, 3ivx) you wish.....

Of course you can convert Realmedia files with mencoder through ffmpegX !

When trying to convert it to Xvid or DivX with ffmpeg, it clinged rapidly and made an empty file.
1/ Files MUST have a .rm extension ( if it's set to .rmvb change it to .rm)
2/ You MUST convert the files with a video codec using mencoder
3/ Filepath and filenames (input and output) MUSTN'T contain any non-ASCII character

If it's still not working, please post the error message in ffmpegX Progress or, even better, check the "Open terminal window" option and see if there is any error message.

Please also note that there is no progress bar during the conversion process (just the "barber-shop style" infinite bar). If you want to see how the conversion is going, you'll have to check the "Open terminal window" option.
