Need a little help with Nero

I've been using Nero for some time without any problems. After a recent format however, I've been banging my head against the wall. I'm using Nero 7 Ultra edition. I have no trouble burning ISO's. But When I try and burn a AVI to DVD Video using Nero Vision 4 and it sticks on the "Creating Menus and Transcoding Streams" part.
I leave it alone for hours and nothing happens. I tried it several times, uninstalled and reinstalled.
Any idea whats going on ?
I was thinking maybe I should try and convert the avi to mpeg2 and then try burning again ???

Upgraded to latest version?

And yes maybe time to test something else, if you don't need menus you can try convertxtodvd, dvd flick, favc. Or convert with a standalone dvd mpeg encoder like quenc, tmpgenc xpress, etc and then author and burn with a good dvd authoring tool like Tmpgenc dvd author...it might work with nerovision but just check so it doesn't reencode the video.

Thanks alot. DVD Flick seems to be workig fine so far. Really simple to use as well. 8)
