    I am considering buying a printer in the Epson R series. The printer itself and the printable DVDs are relatively cheap, but I am worried about what the ink will cost me. Could somebody give me an approximation of the ink cost per disc? If need be, I don't mind using generic ink from places like SuperMediaStore.com.

  2. If you are going to do a lot of disc printing then go for vat system where the ink is stored outside the printer in separate color containers. it will outlast any cartridge. Check out ebay they have them for under $50 as opposed to about $20 for each color cartidge. I had purchased a vat system in the past and works great.

    It's known as a cis or ciss system ... just search ebay for cis or ciss in printer section ... I bought one for $100 (p/h included) for my r230

    Bugger me ... pictures with space's in name end up screwed .

    Cost per disc ??? who know's , it dosent go on like paint dose .

    Here's a note from another site related to cost's involved ... it be pretty damn close .

    The main factor in cost per disc is amount of disc coverage, says Strobel. "Cost per disc depends on coverage. With inkjet if you do 100 percent coverage, it's going to cost you more than if you do 50 percent coverage. In contrast, with thermal transfer, it's always the same price per disc, because the same amount of ribbon is consumed no matter how much or how little you print, even if you're only printing on 5 percent of the disc, which is pretty typical. With thermal your cost is always fixed. It's about 40 or 45 cents for the consumables per disc, just for the ink, no matter how much or how little you print. However, with inkjet. if you're printing 50 percent of the disc, it's about 15-20 cents per disc. At 100 percent coverage it's about 30, 35, or 40 cents per disc. But you can control the amount of ink you put down and therefore control the cost per disc." The most expensive discs, of course, are the full-color discs with photographic images, which are most desirable to event videographers and others performing similar client services.

    Actually , if you can find the correct flexible hose type , you could make one of these suck's real easy ... just if a lign ever break's ... your going to have a nice job cleaning the printer out ... been there , done that ... I didnt do it .

    BJS, I have the EXACT same CIS kit you have pictured, but I'm having trouble getting the right refill ink for it. It originaly shipped with 6 extra bottles, but last time I ordered, ink leaked everywhere from the package and the seller never bothered answering me...

    Were do you get your refills?

    Problem is that with CIS' you always have to use the same ink for refilling or the colors might change

    The colour's are neither here nor there if you avoid those "special's" listed online by some clown's ... when you do notice it change , it's just as simple as wacking a scrap sheet or two through in banner print style , and set it to draft quality only (waste's less ink this way)

    But by god ... watch out for crap quality ink ... the watery stuff ... it's the bleeding type ... real rubbish .

    So as to answer where I get's my ink from : http://www.inkjetwholesale.com.au .

    I use the canon ink for epson ... the hp crap just runs a complete muck .

    At $9au a pop for 125ml ... it's bloody good value considering the cartridges cost about $15 < $23 ... depending on who has them on sale ... never a problem with these guy's .

    I just got to remember , it's not for throwing at possums ... bottle's at high speed tend to go anywhere upon impact ... in the dark ... and these possums will have a crack at anything .

    ============

    I did have one that sold 1000ml ... but at a cost of $100au a pop , and slug good old p/h on top of that ... and surprise , surprise ... we want gst as well (not included) ... that's start's to bite , and the quality also seemed a little odd between bottle's ... I mean the stuff was ok ... but smudged a bit if you didnt let it dry for 30 second's or so .

    But since making the switch to these new guy's , my only problem is keeping up with damand's from customer's ... they just eat this stuff up faster than I can get it .
