HI, can anyone advise me if it is possible to get 5.1 sound from a scart output on the back of my DVD player to connect to the 6 Phono RCA input sockets on the back of my sound system. ( It doesn't have any other ways of getting inputs connected - it does play 5.1 - yes it was a bit of a cut price one! - maybe that was a big mistake - but funds only go so far!) cheers, Joe

RTFM, mate. Your manual will tell you is the scart out supports 6 channel audio. Without knowing what player you are talking about, it is impossible to give you any other advice. While the basics are defined in the DVD spec, the implementation varies wildly from player to player. Your manual will tell you all the ways to connect your player to other components.

Thank you for the quick response,I've just got the manual for the player, it is a Sanyo DVD-SL88, having just got its manual out, it would appear that maybe it doesn't give 5.1 to start with!
It has a 'Orange' Digital Out Phono connector - which its says needs decoding and playing through a Multi channel AV amplifier - it says the AV amp needs to be able to process the DTS? audio signal.
Looks like what I really need to do, is spend some money on a superior set-up.
    cheers,

The digital out will supply Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS audio to an Amp that is capable of decoding the digital signal. Just make sure your new amp has an input that matches your dvd player output (in the US we have optical and coax), or better yet, both for future expansion.
