Just want to know whether this also happened with other users:
I authored several DVDs with DVDAuthor version 0.6.10. Now I
am using the lastest version (0.6.12 or 0.6.13).

Problem is that all of my DVDs authored with the old version always played
perfectly in any DVD player I've put them in... until buying a Philips
DVD recorder model DVDR 3380. Surprisingly I realised that the titleset
menus of those discs don't work with this model: when it jumps to
a titleset menu, just a black screen is shown and the recorder
gets stuck on it. The only way of playing the video contents is hitting
the "next" button (which actually stops the disc!) and then "play": the MPGs
then play sequentially. With DVDs authored with higher versions of
DVDAuthor the titleset menus work. I can't find such bug reported in
the changelogs. Curiously, tracing the discs' structure with PGCEdit
didn't show any problem at all.

Of course I'll not use version 0.6.10 anymore, but I'm just wondering
what is the problem with this version of DVDAuthor and new models like
Philips DVDR 3380. After all, I have a lot of discs authored with version 0.6.10
and not so willing to reauthor and burn again all of them.

  2. I'm not sure, if this could help you, but one problem is 'known' with dvdauthor and Philips:

    GreycatConfirm :

Check the media type you are using is both quality and supported by the player first ... it's one of the major problem's found today .
Then as a test , follow the info in the link provided by borax .

If that dosent help , then it may be something else with the pc setup , and we would need to know the burner's model firmware revision , and the tool that burn's it to disc .

    Thanks, borax.

As I said in my first post, simply using the latest version of DVDAuthor (0.6.12 or 13) solved the problem. Wonder if the other problems with still menus using Philips recorders could be solved this way too...

  5. I don't think so. The used version was 0.6.12... (but the 'old' alpha - maybe the new version really does something different)

I still think it's an authoring software issue, because the menu problem only appears with discs authored with an specific older version of DVDAuthor and (AFAIK) with one specific recorder brand, no matter the media or burner or computer or OS used to burn them (that's my case at least). I tested the "problematic" discs with a Samsung recorder and no problem at all. Actually, if I had never bought that Philips recorder, I'd probably still be thinking that all my DVDs played perfect anywhere.

The authored discs that did work with that Philips recorder used just the version "0.6.12 alpha 2992 Gfd" (which came with GfD). The discs that didn't work with it used version 0.6.10. Well, maybe just coincidence
