I am capturing video from a Dish DVR with Pinnacle's Dazzle DVC100 USB 2.0 capture device.
When there is fast motion, or scrolling news, the motion seems a little jumpy.
I am using a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop witf dual Turion 64 processors (each 1.8 GHz).
I am not losing any frames, so I guess the compression is the cause.
Best quality (6M bits/sec) is smoother than good or better.
If I use VLC Media Player to view live capture full screen, I also see this jumpiness.
I have links to two 12 sec samples, one good one best. I left off audio connectors, so there is no sound.

Is this the best I can expect?
Does the device put out raw video, or does it have hardware compression?
Is there a utility that can monitor data bandwidth from USB port?
Is there something that can capture with no compression (unless it is alredy compressed by hardware)?

    Thank You.

the 'good' one did not jump on my machine

the 'best' one definitely stalled several times

this appears to be cause by dropped frames

lower your capture video bitrate also set it to CBR not VBR

the adstech video express capture device , uses hardware encoding, on the device before the signal is sent to the USB connection, so the 'capture whiz' software that comes with it only has to record the incoming real time mpeg2 file

NO dropped frames, works very nicely

and can be bought for about $49 on Ebay, i got mine from a friend who got it almost 2yrs ago, and paid retail, about 3x that price

    Thanks, theewizard.

You know, I didn't notice that the good WAS better than the best.
But if you look closely at the good, there is a liittle uneven movement.

    I replaced the original 12sbest.mpg when I discovered it was 6 mbit/s not 8 mbit/s quality.
The new one has sound and is 15.3 MB in size.

Here is a URL to adstech usb device at newegg.com.

Is this the one you have?
Notice the user comment saying that one hour of video makes a 70GB avi file!
    Is this true?

At tiger direct the specs for this say:
Video is sent over the USB cable uncompressed so you have the highest quality possible

Is it possible your capture program is doing all the compression?
