  1. My DVD player recorder/player states on the back, and in the handbook, that it will only play region 2 DVD's. My wife recently brought back a DVD from Australia ('First Knight') labelled Region 4 that plays on the recorder/player.

I have two questions, why is this?, and can I be confident that it will play any region 4 DVD?

The recorder/player is a Sony RDR-HXB860. I have only had it for a couple of weeks, and it has not been modified or hacked in any way.

Quite a few UK and Aussie DVD's are region 2+4, and every BBC DVD i've got is region 2+4.
