I have some Hi8 tapes I would like to capture onto mini DV tapes for archiving. If I capture the tapes in LP on the mini DV tapes would the quality be any different than SP mode? These are just normal home movies and nothing fancy.

In terms of the digital data, LP is no different that SP.
But, there can be lots of problems down the road. If you ever need to play LP recordings on a different device, you may have difficulty. Also, an imperfections on the tape are more likely to be evident with LP.
Common consensus is stick to SP.John Miller -
Thanks, I guess I'll stick with SP. I am assuming that LP has issues because of it's smaller track width.

I use D8 for DV storage just because there are 90 minutes SP tapes for this format.

For Storage I used 300gig portable hard drive. I brought 3 of them cheap for Video .
