My stereo receiver was a cheap 100 dollar deal I got as a present, one of the low end ones from best buy, it plays Dolby Digital just fine with my speakers (about 100 watt per channel), i was blown away by how good some of those tracks sounded; but I have a big DVD collection and a lot of my discs have DTS tracks that really blew me away listening to them on my friend's system which is technically a little weaker than my own. Is there an affordable accessory that can make my receiver decode DTS; it's not worth it to me to pay a lot of money for it but 20 dollars wouldn't be unheard of since i paid 27 bucks getting a fiber optic audio cable for it.

Even if there was you would need a six channel analogue input on your receiver in order to accept the decoded channels plus matching cables.

I do have the 6 channel analog input actually. I've heard of people doing this through their computer but it's probably so expensive to do any of this stuff I'd just be better off getting a new receiver I guess.

I do not know of any standalone dts decoder for receivers. I'm sure in the early days of digital surround sound there were and you may find something on ebay to hook up. But I think you'd be better off buying an intergrated surround recevier. Just my two cents. I'm very happy with my sony amp that does dts and dolby digital. If you really want dts it will be worth the upgrade to a new system.

I haven't looked lately, but the last time that I bought a SONY DVD 5-Disc changer, I splurged the few extra dollars for the model that also plays SACDs. It therefore has a 6 channel analog audio output, but it also includes Dolby Digital and DTS decoders. IIRC, it cost about $150. Maybe out of your price range, unless you're also in the market for a new DVD player.
Life is better when you focus on the signals instead of the noise.
