  1. Been a while since I asked a question. Hope some guru can help.

I just got my new 111D installed last night. I burned a few Home movies(4gigs), using TYG02 media. Burned fine, and played back fine. I burned at 8x.

I decided to run the DVD under some tests in CDSpeed, and the disc quality read as follows:

    PI Errors Max = 500
    PI Failures Max = 40

I believe these readings are high. I did reburn the same files at 4X and the results did not improve.

Should I worry about the burns on these DVD's. Will a firmware upgrade yeild better results, or different media? What are the owners of the 111D using for media, and what firmware is best.

    Thanks in advance.

The PIONEER 111D is not good at doing quailty scans. If you want to do quality scans you need to use LITEON & BENQ dvd burners. Check out the scanning section at CdFreaks.com.

If your backups play fine what's the problem .... why analyse when everything is operating as it should, I don't think you have a problem at all. I have never bothered to anaylise a single disc, they all play as good as the original and that is enough for me. I see a lot of people going thought the analyising exerise which I believe prove nothing. If it's not broken don't look for problems.

Same here....scanning is a waste of time IMO.

Fundamentally I agree with Blinky but if you don't, a firmware upgrade might change the results, as may other media.

Based on reading this forum, the standard answer is to use TY media. But lately some posters are TY-bashing claiming that they get poor results with it.

Budz is right. For whatever reason, Pioneers do not give good scans. I have scanned the same disc on a Pionner and gotten horrible results and then scanned it with a Lite-On DVD-Rom and gotten wonderful results. To that end, Everyone else here is correct (IMHO), scanning is a waste of time. I put that Lite-On in a box on the shelf after realizing a couple of weeks later that most DVD-RW drives with good media will give you good scans. My Pioneers (DVR-110D and DVR-109D) love DVD-R from Verbatim, TY and MIJ Maxell. I've even had great luck with Ridata G05.
