    Hello,

I like to listen to a local talk show at http://www.am1600thedawg.com/Web_Cast/index.cfm . This has always played fine in WMP 10 or lower.

I recently upgraded to WMP 11 - and WMP 11 will not play that stream. I have tested with another computer that has WMP 9 and one with WMP 10, and both of those play the stream just fine. It is only WMP 11 that will not play that stream.

I have tested this on multiple computers with WMP 11 installed, and none of them will play the stream.

If I open Windows Media Player 10 (or less), I can click on File / Open URL, type in: mmst://webcast.1st.net/WKKX and it will play.

If I try that with WMP 11 I get the following error:

There is a problem with the URL or file you are trying to open or play. If you are trying to open an URL, the URL may not be valid. If you are trying to play a file, the file type is not recognized by Windows Media Player, but the Player may still be able to play the file. However, you should only play files from a trustworthy source.

Do you want the player to try to play this content?

And whether I select Yes or No to instruct it to play the content anyway, it cannot play the content in WMP 11.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Mike

I'm having a similar problem. It is specific to clicking on WMV files attached to a Netscape 7.2 eMail message. Someone else reported something similar at, but did not have a fix.

I searched Microsoft's support site, and only came up with the following:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/version64/plugin.aspx

I did not see a plug-in for Media Player 11. Sorry I don't have a solution, but wanted to attach this additional information to your post.

Sounds like a bug in some of the new security settings. Ensure you have all of the latest updates from MS. You could also try downloading and installing the default codec pack from MS. If all else fails, revert back to WMP 10.

Check whatever firewall you are running, I suspect that WMP 11 behaves in a manner which differs from WMP10 and has behaviors blocked.

I have the same think. DVD will play in NERO, Power DVD or stand alone player, but not in WMP11.

    You shouldn't hijack a thread.

Sounds like you need a mpeg2 codec installed for WMP. The other apps you listed install and use their own codec.

    Hi Krispy Kritter
It was just a statement. Did not expect any answer.
