  1. Does creating a menu for a home-brew DVD benefit player compatibility and/or longevity of the disc?

Does no menu allow more space for the video/audio which is being burned?

    Thank you!

A menu shouldn't affect dvd player compatibility but some authoring tools may be buggy and create non compliant menus...

Yes, if you don't have a menu you will get more space for video and audio...but a menu with just still images isn't that big.

I think the most compatible is a disk with some sort of a menu. Using NO-MENU is not as compatible expecially if the disk contains multiple tracks (more than 1 movie). I know Tmpgenc DVD Author will complain when I make a DVD with more than 1 track and no selection menu (which I tend to do pretty often ), but I have not had any player issues because of not having a menu. At least none I could blame on that anyway. lol

    Good luck.

Menus have nothing to do with compatibility, only the user experience. Creating a multi-title disc without a menu might not be user friendly, but it will be just as compatible as a disc with a menu.
