    Hi

    I'm looking for a budget basic dvd recorder that can record tv programs off a sky box and give a decent quality picture on playback.

    No other bells and whistles required.

    Can anyone recommend one

    I would suggest a Pioneer DVD Recorder. Even some of their older models are still very good. You may want to check and see if if Sky Box has any copy protection measures that would prevent you from recording.

    Pioneer would seem a bit above budget but maybe I will look for a used one

    I would avoid used one.
    Buy a new one according to your budget and get a proper warranty.
    DVD recorders without a hard drive are not so expensive any more.

    Didn't Pioneer get out of the recorder market?

    You should search the forums for SKY, there are a few people who find it tricky to use a recorder with one. Also there is:

    Why do people keep repeating this? Pioneer may quit in the future, no new models, but there is stock on shelves and they work fine.
