  1. Hello
Does anyone know of a stand alone hard drive recorder that has an mpeg decoder. Or an inexpensive HD dvd recorder that will record analogue tv.
    Thanks very much

That's what all standalone DVD recorders have and do. As for an inexpensive HD DVD recorder it depends on your perception of inexpensive. I think the Pioneer DVR-640H is inexpensive because it costs half the price I paid for an earlier model a couple years before. Plan to spend $300+ although you might find something just under that.

  3. Most hard drive recorders over here england seem to have only terestrial freeview tuners so can only get digital tv. I need analogue input for my satellite receiver. Will look up the pioneer.
    Any more ideas appreciated

The only way to record to HDD or DVD from satellite in the U.S. is through the S-video or composite video inputs. None have satellite tuners. I'm presuming line inputs are available on DVD recorders in England for connection from your satellite receiver's line outputs.

I don't know what brands or models of HDD DVD recorders are currently sold in U.K.

  5. Made a mistake in my original message, I meant I needed one with a mpeg encoder so will work with analogue TV.
    Thanks

  9. You mean hard-drive (hdd) not high-def (hd), right? I suspect you’re after something slightly cheaper, and more portable. I’ve not had time to scrutinise their products thoroughly, but maybe something from http://www.archos.com/ might be suitable. Not cheap though.
