  1. I have tested VegasVideo 3 Vcd/mpeg encoding and I can say that it delivers a very good quality Vcd.

I agree with you. I use it to encode to MPEG-1 for XVCD with 2000 and 2500 Kbits/s, and the quality is very good. And speed is also good.

  3. I have also had good results with Vegas 3.0 and VCD creation. I have some quality issues when creating MPEG2 for DVD creation but it might be my learning curve. Any others have DVD creating experience with Vegas 3.0

  5. I've have good results with mpeg-1 encoding on it..But this weekend I encoded a 1 hour 42 minutes avi to mpeg-2 and it took me almost 15 hours...I never seen that type of encoding time before..did I do something wrong..or is that the average time?

Natcom, You must purchase or "unlock" the Mpeg rendering capabilities in the program.

I have long favored Sonic Foundry and Vegas Video. I do think it is great too !!!!!

I haven't treid yet on 3.0, but on 2.0d I actually was able to drag and drop .vob files into the timeline and render them right in there without frameserving.

Just food for thought if anyone wants to experiment on v 3.0

    Have a great one

Vegas Video 3 does a good job encoding to (X)VCD MPEG1 for me. I use it when my captured AVI file was from VHS source through my D8 camcorder to PC via FireWire. When I capture original shooting from my D8 camcorder I use TMPEGEnc because I want the best quality. I think TMPEGEnc is still the best for MPEG1 encoding, but it is slower than Vegas.

On the other hand, it takes much longer to encode to MPEG-2 for any encoder. For example: I had 30min AVI file. I encoded it to MPEG-2 with TMPEGEnc using 2 pass VBR with Highest Quality without any filters. It took 12 hours.

    Regards.

    1. Open Vegas.
    2. Loadn your AVI file into the timeline.
    3. Click File..., Render As...
    4. In that box choose file type as MPEG1, choose the name of your new file, choose template as NTSC VCD
    5. Click Save.

Natcom, Just to be sure. The Full version of Vegas, you still must activate the Main Concept Mpeg rendering ability. I would think if you have a legit version, this should be active and ready, then as mentioned above simply choose Mpeg 1 as the output file format when you render a vid.

    No,
You need to use Roxio's WinOnCD 3.8 or 5, Easy CD Creator, or Nero.

You can do a much better slide show on Vegas than Nero or the others. Assuming version 3.0, simply drag the jpgs to the timeline and it will place them there, resizing as necessary. You can set automatic cross fades, etc. as a default. Then just drag some mp-3's to the audio track and your ready to render.

With the flexibility of VV you could then adjust transitions, remove transitions, fade in/out/sync audio, etc. A great tool.
