I currently use DVD Shrink to do all compression of captured TV episodes and movies to fit on a DVD-R.
Could anyone kindly advise a better and simple to use free VBR compression app that will do 2 pass VBR and compress the video to fit on a DVD-R.
TMPGEnc DVD has been recommended I believe for both menu preparation and VBR compression.
Does DVD shrink use VBR in the compression.
Its results are fairly good but unless it is my imagination, the resulting compressed video seems to vary a lot in quality and brightness. especially brightness.
Appreciate any guidance.

How do you capture? digitaltv? to mpeg2 ? bitrate?
You can use DVD Rebuilder together with CCE Basic, HC, Quenc, etc to shrink it with vbr compression.
And compression is more conversion than dvd authoring. Moving you. -
I was looking for a suggestion of a single app that will allow 2 pass VBR and shrink to fit on DVD-R and do it better than DVD Shrink.
Is TMPGEnc DVD an option and what does it do.
A list of apps is not very helpful to a person like me new to this authoring.
Appreciate addvice on this. -
Dvd rebuilder is a single app, it has the hc, rejig and quenc encoders built in.
