  1. Hey all

I'm trying to use wmp11 to encode avi movies to play on my pocket pc. Using Windows Media Pocket..

My problem is that whenever I try and encode anything on my desktop PC the conversion either doesnt start or it crshes soon into the conversion..
That is something called Windows Media Encoder Helper crashes.. I get the Send/Don't Send error and wmp11 says error on the sync page. With not alot of other info in the details.

I have tried unistalling/reinstalling but it doesnt help at all.

Any info on this would be great but also..

I installed wmp11 on my laptop and that doesnt crash in conversion which is great but a royal pain as i have a slow network and all my vids are on my desktop. But while wmp11 will play my avi videos it wont convert some of them.. just plain denying it giving error straight away.

Anyone shed any like on this aswell??

    Thanks alot.

Two different pc's will react differently as you have found out .

But checkout what I said in this post , it may just help you .

    https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=319657

On a last note for the night , when you uninstalled wmp11 , did you reboot ?
I was over at the ms sight last night and saw a problem with wmp11 uninstall which stuffed with wmp10 ... a dll or something that get's replace .

A bad thing , but have you a working restore point that you can roll back the system , before this noxious weed got in ... referring to wmp11 .

    Beside's it suck's ... wmp11 has only 3 visual affects , when wmp10 had alot more ... I'll aka it's butt tonight .

I'll say it now ... for those wanting to update to ie7 and wmp11 ... forget it ... just not worthy of the time to mess with and download ... the only real thing you get is a nicer looking gui ... which is pointless ... mozilla if you need a better browser , avs dvd player instead of wmp11 ... this way it wont break on you .

    -------------

Them's message's can mean anything , like my blue screen of death ... a log has been created in windows/system32/log .
    Yeh , right smart a*** , it aint .

That's why I check out those error report's before they go out ... check them for info I dont want going no where fast ... if it contain's such information , it aint going no where soon .

Screwy stuff ... seem's my cpu fan with that nonsense smart fan control was running at 1200rpm , cpu at 38C ... now disbaled it , and it's 2200rpm at 28C ... havent seen that blue screen monster in the last 36 hour's ... I still suspect it's that rotten wga tool ... I see it ... I'll find you later ... mate of no name ... it caused havoc on my old system ... not once in 3 year's have I ever had blue screen's and system reset's till that retard got into it .

And the ms knowledge base is not "all knowing" either ... and there the clown's that came up with this rubbish in the first place ... they should know it like the back of their hand's .

The one I like best :

System has recovered from fatal error ???
When ??? ... the system had shut down as per normal last time you clown .
Again ... Ms has no official information in regard's to X error ...
They get the official dimwit's award .

  3. Well.. thanks for the reply but..

I sat myself down last night, bottle of JD and some tunes on full blast and hardcore cleaned up my PC..
I rolled Back wmp11 and then the run times.. but of course this takes it out of the add/remove programs.
So i searched around a bit and eventually found a media player in the Add/Remove Windows Compnents dialogue. So i removed that too.

I reboted several times thrughout the process and when i had windows the way i want it. (TweakUI rocks) I downloaded wmp11 and installed it.

It takes about 30 mins to install a media player which is just downright wrong but anyway..

Now i've done that it seems i can convert files.. the Encoder will still hang sometimes after 1 file is complete and it's trying to do another but closing the wmpenc.exe process in the taskmanager seems to fix this problem..

Also If i do anything with WMV files while it's converting the Encoder Helper crashes again.. I mean anything.. like even opening a folder with a WMV in that has thumbnails on.. lol

But alas I got it working.

Of course, i don't actually actually use wmp11 to play video.. who the hell does?? are they nuts.. VideoLan, MPClassic or Winamp.

What i dont get with media player is why you NEED to create a library to drag files into conversion. I have 400+gb, it took almost an hour to complete my library and i only wanted video in it.. not music but you cant turn off the default folders..,, we need a new name fore software that forces you into doing things like this. Or i guess could just call it Malware.

Anyway thanks for the reply Bjs

I call it 'MS BS Ware' Have you tried other converters? SUPER works for some conversions of that type. But most likely the Media Pocket program is best if you need to convert to a MS format. I would certainly look around for a forum or comment site for that program and see if they have some ideas.
