I've had this problem for allong time now but never actually bothered me till now. Sometimes after the installation of a new video game (only hapens for games from 2004 and so on) when i start the game they usually show a series of videos, company logos, and an introduction to the game. Well in some games i get an annoying repeatance of these scenes. It goes something like that: Video plays normal for about 2 secs - then stops (video freeze) and rewinds and plays the last 1-2 seconds of audio for about 4-6 times. It can be herd like that! "In a far galaxy a long - a long - a long - a long - a long - a long time ago - e ago - e ago - e ago" and so on.
I used to ommit these intro scenes in games that wouldn't make much difference, but now i've just installed a graphic rpg. To anyone who knows this genre they also know that storyline is very importand in these games, and cinematics are -all about- the story.
My system is on the computer details tab, haven't upgraded for a few years unfortunatelly though i will install a new graphics card (GForce6800XT by XFX) in a matter of days. Do you think this crappy 5200 i now own could be caussing the problem? Never liked the GF5 series.
I also installed the latest version of k-lite mega codecs pack (all the codecs) just now, it din't help.
It's anoying so if anyone knows anything or at least something close to it please speak.
Thanks in advance.

First of all ditch the codec packs - codecsniper - they don't help anything.
My first suspicion is you have a directx conflict somewhere. Go to start - run - and type dxdiag.exe. It should bring up the diagnostic program. Chances are its either your video or your audio - probably video if the video actually stutters too.
I had a no-name sound card on my old pentium 1 computer and when I went to play directx games it wouldn't work right. I found out online that it didn't have the right driver version for dx to work well. Downloaded the right patch and it worked perfectly.
Granted that was a long time ago but I suspect the same issue is present. It might be that your graphics card is having issues with whatever version of directx the games are requiring. It could also be that your old card just might not have enough power for the game.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I've unistalled the codecs pack, which didn't help, but when i checked with sniper i also saw 150 other codecs still in my system. Now which do i choose to delete? If i delete them all, won't it affect windows general playback? Take a look in the list i've included, say what you think.

Unfortunately, with a convoluted cluster-screw such as you have achieved, the best and most effective procedure is to remove them ALL, then re-install only those that you actually need.
It is quite possible to have EITHER ONE of Codec A and Codec B on a machine, and they work perfectly. However, put both of them together on the same PC and you could have a problem. This may only happen if Codec C is also present.
Codec "packs", and specifically the one you named, are a BAD IDEA and the SOURCE OF MANY PROBLEM. The problem comes from too many unneeded codecs on the same box, as the numbers increase conflicts are almost certain to happen. -
To someone with allot of time and nothing better to do
If i delete them all, won't that kill audio and video in windows? How will i re-install the REALLY needed codecs for the windows later? (from where? windows cd?).
Beyong that, will the system be bootable after that? or there is a chance it won't boot?
Also, severall codecs exist inside some intalled programs of mine, Nero, Powerdvd and others. Could one of these be causing the conflict? if i remove them, will the program be operational?
And last. Where do the codecs move when i remove them with sniper? They delete completely?

Ok ok. The new card..IT DOES excellent work. It's like i suspected, the Gf 5200 series suck. To not be able to play video due to a graphics card???? UNTHINKABLE, UNFORGIVABLE!!
Fortunattely it was a lowner card and not actually my buy or else i would hate myself and spit against the wind or bang my head in a wall or something. In any case i strongly advise anyone wanting to buy a cheap graphics card and not a high-end one, DON'T buy underclocked / LE(lite editions) series of the last generation cards (that goes for series 8 right about now). Those series suck big time. Byu a previous generation gt,ultra series or something like that (like the wonderfull 6800XT i bought 3 days ago).
That goes for nvidia cards, i have no idea what's up with all the Ati models and no faith to them frankly.
One last thing for my friend Nelson37, man i've NEVER, EVER had any serious problem in playback due to the speciffic codecs pack and the now changed graphics card confirms it. Video plays fine and it's also the same with the newer version of the codecs pack i've recently installed. Surelly there were, are and will be bugs in a so-many-softwares-in-one-pack but nothing crusial, only annoying things. The kind of things the people making these codec pack try to eliminate with every new version. So you've better change your attitude for your own good cause man, i'm telling you, they are lifesavers.
If anyone wants to add something be my guest. As far i'm concerned problem solved.
Cheers.-Good Things Come to Those Who Wait- -

Just out of curiosity ... you did not mention downloading the latest vga driver's , uninstalling the old , rebooting the pc , then reinstalling the new driver package for the 5200 .
While the card is now falling behind ... it was reasonably matched to you motherboards fsb ... closer than other's .. from my older system which is a close match to your's , it performed with only 1 minor issue .
Game's that repeated scene's ... I only had v8 australia from codemasters that caused this issue ... but they said the crash to desktop and ingame jitter was caused by onboard audio chipset's not having hardware buffer's ... while this is true , it is not what the problem was .
It was because codemaster wrote the game using several programming languages too avoid paying royalties to secondary parties that is the actual problem ... poor thing get's confused and run's home and dosent want too play no more .
---------
As for directshow codec issue's : filmerit_21 from http://paul.glagla.free.fr/fichiers/filmerit_21en.zip ... simple .
If you see any problem's with directshow codec's related to program's you own , you would need to uninstall , reboot , and reinstall them to fix their issue properly . -

If you introduce another one that wants to be king all hell breaks out and the two kings fight leaving you without a king. :P As I said simplified but that's just the way it is, you can even introduce a wanabe king that doesn't fight right off the bat but waits a few months, this is of course the worst kind since you have no idea it's the problem.
Take the advice or leave it but don't cop an attitude... The people here answering questions are generally correct and the possibility of conflicting codecs causing issues is a no brainer. -

Regarding what thecoalman last wrote.
What you say about kings and queens and generally the reason for a conflict of interests between software in windows sadly happens. But that shouldn't scare me or anyone else to use the resources of one program because another disagrees with it. You simply choose which program interests you more and toss the other in the recycler.
I've posted some topics in this forum, mostly about videos/audio, compressions/conversions. If you would like go and check my posts and please tell me if you think, these questions i ask are problems caused by the codec packs?
One last request, next time PM me, this topic should have been buried long ago, it has nothing to offer.
Thank you.-Good Things Come to Those Who Wait- -

To me, installing a codec pack is like servicing your car by putting all the oil and coolant and parts in a bucket and just throwing them over the car. Sure, some things might go into the right place, but most won't, and your car won't ever be quite the same again.
